ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
The past decade has brought many miseries and untold sufferings to so many families in this country of ours, Zambia. Through the activities of One Thousand Hearts Foundation, we have learned that, women and children are being defiled, raped and abused and some of these horrendous acts sometimes are not reported but are told when these victims find somebody they can trust. If it’s the children, teachers come into play, as the comforters to these children. For women, it’s usually through friends and sometimes relatives come to know of these ordeals, though late.
Our role, as One Thousand Hearts Foundation, is to educate the women and children on what to do when such horrendous incidences occur at any time. Whilst it is frightening and horrendous that we in Zambia have the need to have to educate people on what to do in the event of rape, or to even contemplate the possibility of being raped, the following information in this book may ensure that the rapist is brought to justice through the proper collection of evidence, even summoning the silent witness, the DNA to speak on behalf of those who have been sexually abused.
What will strike one most when reading this book is that, the victims of Rape are usually subjected to even further trauma and suffering throughout the ordeal of being examined after the attack, and it is for this reason that we believe it is essential that the Medical Examiners handling the case are properly informed insofar as KNOWING what they are doing when collecting evidence from a Rape Victim, and above all, are compassionate; furthermore it is important that the victim or family member or friends of the victim know what to expect and what the victim’s rights are during the examination.
Therefore, this is to empower the women and children in our country so that they may arise above any form of sexual violence that might come upon them. Other materials for educating the women and children can be found with the One Thousand Hearts Foundation, Rape and Abuse Support Agency (RASA)
With the so many changes in our societies where we have embraced foreign cultures, we have observed that parental negligence has led to juvenile delinquencies. But we have to assure you that One Thousand Hearts Foundation, will and is still standing firm on the solid foundation of love, deeply rooted in the human relations that brings forth fortifications of both the women and children. Standing on the truth and teaching values that spearheads the fortification of families is paramount in our ways of life.
The One Thousand Hearts Foundation tends to touch the hearts of both women and children, especially those who have been sexually abused, to embrace them with love and care and to nature them with quality holistic care and sharing with them the best that our organisation can give that can transform them and enable them to have hope and trust again in people, and so that they can touch other people’s hearts and give them love and hope as well.
Therefore, we are:
